meet the staff: jon

I’m Jon Smith (really), founder and owner of Cork & Bottle Fine Wine retail shop, Clever Wine Bar and the Mid-City Green Market all in the heart of Mid-City New Orleans.

I love wine and in 2002, after working for several years on the corporate side of the wine business, I started Cork & Bottle as a way to make wine easy, accessible and hassle free….and it worked. Getting the chance to put great bottles of wine in the hands of people that love them is such a genuine reward.

What do I like to drink? Well, if its a red wine there’s about a 7 in 10 chance that its a bottle of wine from the Rhone valley or the South of France.  I do have a guilty sweet tooth for big, lush Napa Cabs and as of late I’ve been playing around with Argentina and Portugal.  For white, I’ll go big with a white Burgundy, the occasional everyday Spanish white wine or something else dry and crisp.  Finding its way in the mix is a bottle of Prosecco (but only on days that end in “y”) - that is if the Full Sail IPA isn’t cold yet.
